Public Safety professionals deal with some of the hardest situations we can imagine. We must answer the calls for help and maintain readiness, despite the toll it takes on us personally. We are so focused on being strong for our jobs, we often neglect ourselves and those closest to us. Some of us suffer from Post Traumatic Stress, depression, substance abuse, etc. Some isolate themselves and pretend that all is okay while their peers look on, knowing something is wrong but don’t say anything in hopes that it will pass. We are looked upon to solve other people’s problems but neglect our own, most often due to a lack of support. I’d like to share a huge resource that is available for all Public Safety professionals and their families. It’s called Safe Call Now! Safe Call Now is a NATIONWIDE, CONFIDENTIAL, 24/7 crisis referral service that can help. It doesn’t matter what it is…financial issues, family issues, mental health concerns, substance abuse, PTSD…make the call and speak to a Peer Advocate. I can personally attest to the work that this organization does because I used to be a Peer Advocate myself and I know the impact it had and continues to have on those in need. If you need help and don’t know where to turn, call 206-459-3020. Safe Call Now has an amazing list of partner organizations that are ready to help in a variety of ways. All it takes is for you to make the call. Stay safe and take care of yourself!
